Thousands of service members face the daunting task of transitioning from military to civilian life every year. It is a complex process, with many veterans leaving the military without a job, and a significant percentage not signing up for Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) benefits. The need for accessible, intelligent, and virtual pathways to support this transition is crucial to ensure the long-term success of veterans in their post-military careers.
The Expiration Term of Service (ETS) Sponsorship Program, a non-profit organization, collaborates with the VA, Department of Defense (DoD), and local communities to provide support and resources for transitioning military personnel. Onward Ops, hosted on Google Cloud, is a single, secure portal that consolidates information and resources for those transitioning out of the military.
Veterans participating in the program receive a Google Workspace account to communicate with others and access a range of resources. Google Workspace features unique AI-powered tools like an AI assistant in Gmail, Chat, and Calendar, as well as interactive features in Google Meet, fostering a sense of community among program participants.
Google has a long history of supporting service members and veterans through various initiatives. One such initiative is the searchable job database that allows veterans to find opportunities by matching their military occupation codes with civilian positions. This feature simplifies the process for veterans to identify compatible jobs in their desired fields.
Another crucial component of Google’s commitment to veterans is the mental wellness resource hub, Serving Veterans. The hub is dedicated to supporting veterans dealing with mental health issues and providing access to valuable resources for overall well-being.
Google has also partnered with reputable organizations in creating workforce training courses designed for veterans. These courses equip former service members with the necessary skills to excel in the civilian workforce, further facilitating their successful transition.
The importance of a well-supported transition from military to civilian life cannot be emphasized enough. Google’s ongoing initiatives are instrumental in offering valuable resources and opportunities for veterans during this critical time. Communication was beyond great, his understanding of our vision was phenomenal, and instead of needing babysitting like the other agencies we worked with, he was not only completely dependable but also gave us sound suggestions on how to get better results, at the risk of us not needing him for the initial job we requested (absolute gem).
This has truly been the first time we worked with someone outside of our business that quickly grasped our vision, and that I could completely forget about and would still deliver above expectations.
